Beacon Hill School is a NUT-FREE SCHOOL
We have a few students who are allergic to nuts; thus, we adopt the nut-free policy at school.
Nut allergies can be life-threatening. Children may have an anaphylactic reaction to food containing nuts or nut products, not only when ingested but also when inhaled or by skin contact. Some children will have a reaction even if they simply touch a toy or piece of play equipment that has been touched previously by someone who has eaten nuts.
Nuts may be obvious, as in a muesli bar or a cookie, or hidden as peanut oil, crushed or cooked into food.
We kindly ask you NOT to send nuts or any food containing nut products in your child’s snacks or lunch.
Your cooperation is not only appreciated but absolutely required to ensure all our children stay safe.
Gateway Medical Update
A gentle reminder to update your child/children’s medical information on Gateway as soon as possible.
Absentees from school
Please inform the school about your child’s absence as soon as possible via the ESF App.
Also, please mention the reason for absence clearly and the signs and symptoms your child is having if it's medical/health-related.
Some diseases are categorised as “notifiable diseases” in Hong Kong. Therefore, it is important for parents to notify the school immediately if a child is diagnosed by a doctor, as the school will need to take appropriate precautions.
Child returning to school after Sickness
Fever
Students with a temperature of 37.5°C/99.5°F or greater should remain away from school until they are fever-free for 48 hours without the benefit of fever-reducing medicines such as Panadol or Ibuprofen (Nurofen, Advil). If students are sent to school before they have fully recovered, they may become more susceptible to other illnesses and/or spread their illness to others.
Diarrhoea and/or vomiting:
Students with vomiting and/or diarrhoea should remain away from school until 48 hours after the last episode of vomiting and diarrhoea.
Medicine administration in school
If your child is required to take prescribed medication in school, you must ensure a Medication Authorisation Form has been completed and signed by the parent. For safety reasons, it is a school policy that all prescribed medication for students must be handed to the school nurse for safekeeping and not kept with students; this is upheld through all ESF primary schools.
The medicine should be in the original packaging and clearly labelled with the following:

Mosquito Protection
Please ensure children are fully protected with mosquito repellent before coming to school. Do not send the repellent with the students in their school bags. As we know, mosquitoes love the hot, humid weather that we are having at the moment. We are taking environmentally friendly precautions to try to stop the increase of mosquitoes in the area; with this and a repellent, we feel it will aid in the prevention of mosquito-borne illnesses.
Feel free to email me at nurse@bhs.edu.hk if you have any questions or need more information on any health/medical-related topics.
